Help and advise please. I have a 770 laptop type 9548-300 with a bios version of 1.09 dated 10.20.97 I have purchased a new hard drive to stick in it (20GB) when I run fdisk to sort it out it says I have a 8gb drive, If I update the Bios to the current version as on the IBM website would it allow the machine to "see" the full 20gb? also is it easy to upgrade the bios.
Any help would be appreciated
Steve

I have used larger hard drives in a 770. The BIOS upgrade should do the trick.
FWIW, I have been using a 20GB drive in a 770E, 770X, and 770Z. I did have to set it up in 2 partitions: C is 2GB formatted in FAT16, and the D: is the rest formatted as FAT32. I put the OS on C and everything else on D.
Upgrading the BIOS is easy. You need to visit the IBM site and download the BIOS disk image. This is a file that you can run in any PC that has a 3 1/2 inch drive. The file will create a bootable disk that you must put in your Thinkpad when you start it up. Note that you should have a fully charged battery installed when you upgrade the BIOS. Full instructions are in the TXT file for the BIOS upgrade.
Hope this helps.

um... I've got one big 40 gig 7200 rpm drive in my 770z, and i never had a problem partitioning it. Ofcourse, i use XP pro so that might be why. It sees the drive with problems. Also, i'm using the latest bios.

larger then 8gig and bois
Thanks for the input. So I take it I can safely instal the latest bois software although the bois I have is so old? just scared of screwing the thing up, the IBM site says if its done wrong I might need a new board. Oh happy days when things were easy.
