R61i Optical Drive on the blink

I've had my R61i for a few months now and I love it, but lately I've been having a few problems with my Optical drive (DVD Writer). It works fine for a few minutes and then suddenly stops reading the disk in it. This usually happens when I'm installing something, after ejecting the disk and re-inserting it runs fine.

At first I thought it was a Windows/Driver issue and re-installed XP (format and fresh install) but it continued, I've just upgraded to Vista (clean install) and the problem still persists. The strange thing is that it doesn't give any problems when installing an operating system.

Any ideas?

Dirty Lens? Defective Drive? Run PC-Doctor diagnostics on it.
