Here's a pic of my collection before it shrinks anymore.

#1 Post by virge » Wed Oct 15, 2008 2:57 pm

I thought I should get a picture of my collection while there are enough computers to call it a "collection." 3-4 are going to be sold or given away soon. Sorry for the bad angle. I just couldn't figure out a way to get a good picture of all of them together. AND I forgot to get my 770X in there!

Image

From back to front starting on the left:

G40 - Will be going to my parents to replace an aging desktop
A31 - One of two. This one is replacing the 770X. The other is in the bedroom.
A22M - My print server at work.

T42P - This one is my daily driver. I just gave my backup one away as a going to college present.
T40 - Funky USB ports, media player hooked up to the TV.
TP600 - Working frankenpad gathering dust.

TP380Z - Works, but gathering dust
Transnote - Bad mobo, gathering dust.

TP570E - Should be on its way to Austria as soon as the Austrian post finds some lost mail.
TP560E - My FIRST Thinkpad. Bad charging unit, but works off AC.
TP701C - One of two. So cute! Have to get rid of one.

X23 - Is being phased out with the X31.
X31 - Replacing the X23.
240X - Awesome, but I'm not sure what do to with it yet.
Current Thinkpads: 600E, 600X, 701C, A31 (Flexview), R51 (Flexview), R60, T42P (Flexview), TR50E, T60 (Flexview), X61s (Ultralight), Z61m (Ti) Non-Thinkpad: Toshiba 100ct

Gee, I "only" have 5 ThinkPads. But each one has three hard drives with different operating systems. Does that mean I "really have" 15 ThinkPads?

Operating systems include XP Pro, Vista 32 bit, Vista 64 bit, and Server 2008.

Maybe I need to find a "ThinkPad Addicts" support group!! But then I would never go. Too busy playing with all my ThinkPads!

Wow! Very nice collection. All I've got around is a T60 (my father's) and I've got a W500 on order. Seen/used lots of T60, a T60p, some T61, T41, T42, T43, T21, T23. All are great laptops.

Virge, love the collection, we currently have a 570 that sits on its own UltraBay Media Slice, a T30, two T40's, a T60 and T61, plus a ThinkPad Z60m which I use full time to run our blog.

We have a T500 and an IdeaPad S10 Netbook on the way.

What makes you say you like the 240? We used to sell loads of those 8/9 years ago. They were so easy to carry around.

I would love to see Lenovo engineer a ThinkPad netbook based around a 240 - 701 Butterfly.

What an Ultraportable ThinkPad that would be

I had a Workpad Z50 for a while and was impressed the usability of the keyboard despite its small size. I didn't keep the Z50, because I just couldn't use Windows CE without getting too frustrated. The 240 is just like the Z50 but runs Win2k and has a bigger screen. For typing documents, it works just fine. Right now I keep it in my desk at work and pull it out when I need to spend some time away from my T42P.

And I do agree that a 240 with a 701 keyboard would be awesome. Make that LCD XGA and drop in a ULV processor and it would be a very nice ultraportable.

ThinkPad 240 - 701 Hybrid

#8 Post by ThinkPadToday » Tue Oct 21, 2008 10:56 am

Hi Virge, I think that I will post a design for the new ThinkPad 240/701 Netbook on the blog at thinkpadtoday.com and make sure that the boys at Lenovo HQ in Raleigh NC see it.

I'll post here when its done and we can all ad our comments to vote for it!

Cheers, Ian orford

Glad to see that the 240x went to a really nice home with lots of "brothers and sisters" to play with. If our timing is good with your getting rid of the X23 and my rid of my extra machines, we may have a match..... again!

My wife and I are planing to go to Alaska on vacation next summer and I'm not certain I want to take my beloved T42p just to dump pictures and check email. :?

Oh by the way: Nice collection.... and floors!
Family Daily Drivers- T430s, T530, X220
Work- Sadly, the ThinkPads have gone away...... and replaced by HP ProDesk SFF drone machines :(
Other Projects- Edge 15, Z61m (Titanium)
Historic Retired ThinkPads- T42p, X20, A31p, 701c, 760XD, WorkPad C505

schen: The 240x is nice to carry around and with the upgrades, its working out well. Thanks for the swap. Its not going to be lonely for sure! I'll send you a PM when the X23 is ready to leave home. My wife and I took it to Hawaii to hold pictures... its much easier to carry around than a T42P!

Thanks for the compliment on the collection and floors! We had the floors refinished when we moved in a couple years ago... and it was well worth it. These floors were under carpet and looked quite damaged when we first saw them. 2 out of 3 contractors said the floors needed to torn out and replaced. One said he would try refinishing first-- saved us a fortune. :D

Nice collection! :D

... I know what you could do with that 240x and any other ones you don't want.
560, 560, 560, (all in various stages of completion/possession of a screen) 600E that's pretty dead, and a spiffy new X61 Tablet.

Nice, I *only* have three (truthfully the X61s is provided by work, so only really two (T43, T61p) are mine). Nice collection!
