Upgrading HD / Cloning (again)

#1 Post by outofstepper » Wed Oct 15, 2008 3:14 pm

greets all.
I know this has been covered in a few places, but I'd like to
try a "different approach" and would like some feedback..

(essentially i want to try Window's backup/restore)

I recently purchased a W500 with the 160gig 7200 disk.
With Vista64-business, 160gig isn't very much space.

With the WD320's coming down in price ($89), I'd really
like to make the move & upgrade -- but ghosting/cloning
is something I've never done before and it doesn't sound
straight forward.

I don't have too much stuff installed.. but enough that I'd
like to avoid having to do a clean re-install of everything.

So here's my Q:

I make a Windows "Back Up" using vista control panel and
back up my whole system to external media (CD, DVD, etc)

I install my new big HD & use the lenovo R&R discs to get the
machine up and running again.

I then "restore from backup" and point to my external backup.

will this bring my HD to the same state it is now?

Thanks.
