Is T43 1875 Intel 915GM/GMS,910GML Express SXGA+ capable?

#1 Post by blops » Wed Oct 15, 2008 4:09 pm

New member here... did a quick search on the forum and found this thread: http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.php?t=59962. Within it, people have claimed the ATI 7500 can handle the SXGA+ 1400x1050 resoltuion contrary to the ebay seller's quote:
For some reason ThinkPad's that came with ATi Radeon 7500 and Intel 900 video chips don't work with high-resolution screens like this - they produce a lot of digital noise or do not show any image at all
In fact there was never a ThinkPad laptop released that had a combination of either one of those two graphics chips and a high resolution SXGA+ [1400x1050] or UXGA [1600x1200] screen (14" or 15" LCD size) - do not try to prove IBM/Lenovo wrong, won't work
My question is, can the Intel 915 handle the 1400x1050 LCD off of a T42? I have transplanted one and it does not recognize the LCD at all. Any special settings that need to be done, or am I out of luck here?

Please help! Thanks!

No it can't. Many people have tried it and no one got it to work, to the best of my knowledge...you're stuck with XGA and that's it.

Thanks for the quick reply. Looks like I will be going with the CCFL repair then.

People have done this without problems... in that very thread you linked, there's someone with an SXGA R52/915GM in his signature (plus this ebay link). The 855 on the other hand doesn't work...

Check this thread as well, where UXGA was tried (and didn't work quite right), then SXGA was used instead.

The seller does not know what he's talking about, because I am using a 7500 with SXGA right now. Main issue was being sure to use the SXGA cable.

I just finish restoring my old T41 (2373-700) back to original spec, which among other things was running a SXGA+ screen from the ATI 7500 GPU chip. My wife is using an R52 (1860-CTO) running a SXGA+, 15" Flexview screen off of the Intel 900 GPU.
Family Daily Drivers- T430s, T530, X220
Work- Sadly, the ThinkPads have gone away...... and replaced by HP ProDesk SFF drone machines :(
Other Projects- Edge 15, Z61m (Titanium)
Historic Retired ThinkPads- T42p, X20, A31p, 701c, 760XD, WorkPad C505

Once and again:

SXGA+ does work on R52 with Intel graphics.

SXGA+ does NOT work on T43 with Intel graphics.
