How much space does your Thinkpad really have?

My T41 says it is a 40GB hard drive, but only appears to have 27GB on it.

I know some space is used up for various IBM related features, but losing 30% of the memory on this seems quite massive.

What are others experiencing.

What can I do to recover more memory?

Is it because of the hidden partition?

I just got my 7K60 today but havent installed it yet. The stock drive is a 30GB and I have it partitioned for 20GB for D: and the rest for C:.

C: shows 8.41GB
D: shows 19.5GB

as a percentage, you seem to have more space.

i've got a 40gb but only 27gb for use which is like a 30% loss...

Before I started messing with it my 40GB drive had 33.9GB free. By converting the hidden stuff to storage I picked up 3.34GB, so it appears that the system automatically partitioned 10% for the hidden stuff.
