Does it exist?

#1 Post by Tin Star » Wed Oct 15, 2008 11:00 pm

I have a T61 and would like to run the ultrabay DVD/CD drive on another machine if there is a adapter cord that would connect the ultraybay via USB.

I am not quite certain that I understand your intentions correctly, so please clarify:

1) Do you want to keep the DVD-RW mounted in your T61, and under these conditions be able to use the drive from another PC - like having some "network DVD-RW" which you access from another PC via an USB-to-USB cable? If so, I have never heard about it, but since you can share HDD's over a network (NB: Via the Ethernet!), you might also be able to "see" the internal T61 DVD-RW from another PC? I however doubt that you will be able to actually burn CD/DVD's on the T61 from other PC's via USB? At least, I have never heard about it... :?:

2) If you just want to take out the (T61) DVD-RW drive and connect it to another PC, via USB, that's possible - see a couple of suggestions in the thread FS: Ultrabay Slim DVD-RW burners (R5x/T4x/T6x/X4x/X6x/Z6x).

I think Tin Star meant if he can use the Ultrabay Slim drive externally on another machine via USB interface. TBH, I'm not sure.

Exactly, I just ordered a new ASUS N10 and want to remove it from the T61 then use the Ultrabay DVD Drive externally via USB on the N10.

So, did you follow Johan's link to one of his other posts and were either or both of the two options linked in that post what you are looking for?
