Best Phones To Trade Stocks??? Help

#1 Post by bobohead » Wed Oct 15, 2008 11:12 pm

I'm thinking about switching to ATT or Sprint from my $hitting GetroPCS. I want one of those smartphones/PDA type phones.. ones to either touch or use of a stylus. I want a phone where I'll be able to trade stocks with ease.. I dont think blackberry phones have any touch screen/stylus ones right now. Anyone recommend any others? OH and also it should work well when loading Youtube =) . There are alota smartphones/pdas out there.. just not sure which ones work best.. help! thanks fo rnow

Blackberry's newest model will have a touch screen. I personally use a Palm Treo 755p with Sprint, does everything you ask, except if you want to use a flash based website, the flash features do not work. There is an onboard player called Kinoma that has an awesome Media Guide, one of the features is Google video and YouTube search. This phone uses the fast EVDO data. Plus, I might add, Sprint has the cheapest data rates, $15 a month.

One last thing, make sure that the stock trading website that you use has a mobile version, or you probably won't be able to do trades on the phone. If you want to PM me with the web address of your stock trader company, I can check on my phone to see if they allow you to do trades.

Here's another vote for Palm & Sprint. The data plan is dirt cheap with Sprint. I too use a Treo 755p and can't say enough about it (In fact, I'm writing this post on it now). One downside is that doesn't push email so it has to sync all the time with my IMAP account and that can eat up the battery. Blackberry does have push.
I do like the look of the latest Blackberrys, but I couldn't get over the center button....the touch just felt off. Correct me if I'm wrong but I thought Blackberry had some built-in app specifically for stocks (maybe it was just with ETrade). I have no idea how well the Treo and PalmOS work with stocks.
Palm does have a new model (the Pro I think?). It looks like it's pretty fast & powerful, so that might be a plus for what you want. The Pro only comes with Windows Mobile right so for those who love PalmOS, you'll have to wait. Also, the Pro is GSM while the Treo is CDMA....might be a deal breaker for some (along with the steep price).

The upcoming touch Blackberry will be available from Verizon. Other models are available from a wide range of carriers.

Generally speaking you can't beat a Blackberry for all kinds of business uses. I am not sure about Youtube but I'd wager a guess that nothing except Storm (the touchscreen one) and Bold (coming to AT&T once they stop mucking around) has the processing power for it -- if those even do.

More important: who is your stock trading service? I wonder what the experience is like trading stocks with a cell phone, but I imagine it has more to do with what the brokers web site looks like on a cell phone and how easy they make it for trades.
