Enhanced & Elite - ThinkPad T500 & T400

#1 Post by WojtekJ » Wed Oct 15, 2008 11:20 pm

Four new options appeared (I haven't seen them in last days and haven't seen any thread about that - I hope I'm not writing about something obvious).

- Enhanced ThinkPad T500 15.4" widescreen with discrete graphics
- Elite ThinkPad T500 15.4" widescreen with discrete graphics
- Enhanced ThinkPad T400 14.1" widescreen with discrete graphics
- Elite ThinkPad T400 14.1" widescreen with discrete graphics

I believe that new version don't offer nothing great - their 'basic configurations' are higher and their configurators don't give a posibility to choose less expensive and less powerful components.

I was not analyzing prices, maybe it's a deal if you choose something powerful.

I looked at the enhanced and elite and I couldn't find a single differece. Maybe just some marketing gimmick.

Probably.
Word "elite" means much for some people ;)

They are offering WiMax on the elite T400 model. My father is buying a T400, so I couldn't resist checking it out when I was using the configurator for him.

"Intel WiMAX/WiFi Link 5350 [add $68.00] " - from standard T400 configurator ...

Ordinarily, I'd agree that this is a cheap marketing gimmick. However, when you configure identical machines based standard, enhanced and elite versions, you can see that you actually save some bucks if you start with the better equipped machine; i.e., with enhanced you save over standard, and with elite you save over enhanced. Something like a hidden discount.
