Hi all,
I'm wondering if anyone can give me some ideas to try after encountering some problems after installing new memory in my laptop.
First of all some background:
I have an R61i 7650-A6G. It is currently configured to dual boot with Fedora 9 and Windows XP SP3. All hardware is stock - 1.46Ghz Pentium dual core, 1GB RAM (2x512MB SODIMMs), 120GB HDD.
I recently purchased a 2GB Corsair Value Select SODIMM (PC2-5300) and installed it in Slot 1. Slot 0 still had one of the stock 512MB SODIMMs installed.
After booting into Windows, I had no real issues. Booting into Fedora however, took a while, and it didn't seem to respond that well. I decided that perhaps it might be a problem with the new RAM module, so I reinstalled the original two 512MB SODIMMs.
Now when I boot into Fedora, everything is fine. But when I boot into Windows, I get a BSOD on startup. I cannot even get into Last Known Good Configuration or Safe Mode, they seem to BSOD at the TDI.SYS file.
When I install the 2GB module in Slot 0 on it's own, Fedora encounters a kernel panic and cannot boot, and Windows still has the BSOD issue.
I would normally think that the problem is purely with the new 2GB SODIMM, but that doesn't really explain to me why Windows can no longer boot up with the original RAM installed.
I've looked into some other forums and will try booting up with the WinXP CD in recovery console, but I've seen that it gives mixed results.
Any ideas on what else to try?
Thanks
