Dual display monitors with Adv. Minidock

#1 Post by dieselvette » Thu Oct 16, 2008 9:00 am

I'm running 2 monitors with my mini dock, so my T61 is awfully confused when docking/undocking.

When docking (or restarting while docked) it seems to take on a random arrangement of display positioning and resolution, I can't find any consistency with what it's doing or why.

When restarting while undocked vs. restarting while docked, the windows taskbar appears in different sizes, large or small. It retains this size (during docking/undocking) until restarted in a different scenario. I've checked the DPI scaling, under "custom" I can't uncheck the "use Windows XP style DPI scaling" without selecting a very large scale, I don't know if that's related or not.

Each time I dock the T61, I need to go into display properties and configure my displays. And then I need to move the windows sidebar to the appropriate screen (apparently the screen # in sidebar properties correlates with screen # at last restart or docking, if you change primary screen in display properties, the sidebar doesn't move with the start menu).

Does anyone have any experience with these issues?
Sincerely,
Nic Van Engen

Are you using the presentation director?

If not, install it/start using it and set up a profile that should be used each time your machine is docked.

I've found that Presentation Director is flakey in setting monitor arrangements. I've saved profiles which worked fine for a week with a DVI-connected 21" Samsung LCD and a VGA-connected 17" Sony Trinitron, then refused to apply the profile complaining that refresh rates or resolutions weren't supported (clearly BS).

I use the Catalyst Control Center (CCC) for my T's ATI card, and it works fine. I also use UltraMon to save some desktop and wallpaper configurations, but Ultramon can't override video card issues like the CCC does.
