Hi All,
I have searched hi and low for an answer to this. Here is my issue:
I have an old T42 which had a cisco a/b wireless pci card inside. The cisco card would only connect at 11mb/s and would not recognise WPA security. I decided to change the internal card for an IBM 11a/b/g mini PCI adapter II card. This should so I have been led to believe work fine with a T42.
I installed the card physically without any issues, however on booting i get 2 beeps from the BIOS and an error messgae telling me the there is a Resource Conflict - PCI Network Controller in slot 01 Bus:02, Device:02, Function:00 I have upgraded the motherboard Bios to the latest version 3.04. I have looked in the Bios but can't see any issues and I can't see what it is conflicting with.
If I escape out of the error message, windows XP boots, however in the device manager list, the network card shows with a yellow exlamation mark, the card is found but has been disabled by the BIOS and is not drawing on any resources.
Does anyone have any idea how I can fix this?
There is one anomoly, I ran a file i found on the net called jmp1802.com which needs to be run in dos (aparently to allow certain cards to work with the T42)... well at least I think i ran it, I booted to dos with ntfsfordos under ultimate boot CD, after command promting to the correct directory on my HD i typed: jmp1802.com i got no screen promts back after running, however on reboot i didn't get the Bios error, it booted in and the card was recognised, I connect to my linksys router running wpa security and downloaded a couple of things from the web (DAP and Antivirus). However next time I rebooted i get the same error again. Running jmp1802 again had zero effect, it may just be a coincidence....?
I do find it strange though the card was recognised for a short amount of time... any suggestions would be MOST appreciated.
Thanks
Eden
ibm 11a/b/g wireless mini PCI adaprter II resource conflict
The T42 Tabook doesn't appear to list a T42 with the Cisco a/b card, so this may have been an upgradable model which had the Cisco card added at some other stage. No matter, though. The IBM a/b/g II card should work just fine. Only non-IBM wireless cards need the "1802 hack" - your card shouldn't need this.
Is there an option in the BIOS to re-set the PCI resource allocation? Resource management/setup should all be handled by windows, so you might end up having to re-install windows.

sktn77a Thanks for the reply. Really appreciate it...
Actually I'm sure you are correct... What I did was build the machine with windows while the T42 still housed the Cisco a/b card.... when I couldn't connect to WPA-PSK AES security on my router I switched the card to the IBM a/b/g 11 but I didn't reinstall windows.
I'll give that a go, I'm sure it will work, and makes sense why the card worked intermittantly before crashing the system.
One question though, in the BIOS the only options I could see for PCI were all set to 11, there was an auto option..! which I tried adjusting previous to my original post with no effect.
The windows options sounds like the best way forward. I'll write back if it works.
Cheers for your support.
