1 GB RAM chip in X24?
1 GB RAM chip in X24?
I see the max official RAM for the X24 is 640 -- 128 MB soldered + 512 in the free slot.
Locally I can find a 1 GB PC133 chip for slightly cheaper than 512MB usually sells.
Has anyone tried this in the X24 or similar models?
Does it work at all?
Even if it only appears as 512MB, it would be useful.

Can you post a link to the 1GB PC133 SODIMM you are referring to? I'm not sure if there is a 1.25" tall SODIMM that was made in that capacity. There are "double height" modules used mainly with Apple computers but they can't fit inside the X2 memory slot.

This isn't online, it's a shop here that sells old and/or used components.rkawakami wrote:Can you post a link to the 1GB PC133 SODIMM you are referring to?
I'll try to note the specs more closely if they still have it next time I'm in the area (might be a few weeks).
Because I'm not in the US, buying online from online dealers or eBay isn't viable. Even if they would ship it overseas (many won't), I don't have PayPal and the shipping charges, even for a RAM chip that weighs a few grams, are usually exorbitant.

Cheaper than a 512MB SDRAM SO-DIMM?
That sounds like its a 1GB DDR SO-DIMM or DDR2 SO-DIMM, which aren't compatible. They're slotted differently, and won't fit.
If you force it, or get creative and add more notches where they shouldn't be, you FRY your motherboard the millisecond you apply power.
Honestly, I haven't heard about or seen a 1GB SDRAM SO-DIMM, I always thought that 512MB was the largest for SDRAM, just as 1GB is the largest for DDR, and 2GB for DDR2.

Anyone care to experiment with this?
If you remove motherboard, it's possible to put it in the memory slot.

Anyway, it my X24 has given up the ghost (the reason I was in the computer mall where I saw the chip, trying to get it fixed), so I won't pursue this further, unless perchance I replace it with a similar model.

That might be true. Looking at the height of that Cisco module and comparing it to the X24 I have in my hands, it appears that there's enough room for the module to clear the docking port connector. However, I don't think that you would be able to get the motherboard back into the base. At least not without cutting out the area between the memory bay and the docking port. I'll leave it up to somebody else who is willing to spend $200+ and that has a spare X24 base to alter.Raceboy wrote:Anyone care to experiment with this? If I could find this memory cheaper, I have working X22 base that is the same as X24 sans CPU.

if it could fit in a X24 could fit in a X30 too?
i'm really curious just because many people told me that was impossible and so i didn't buy the same so-dimm of 1gb that i see now in the link

because of the motherboard doesn't accept that so-dimm.Here's normal size 1gb 144pin SODIMM on eBay: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... :middle:us

1GB sticks are worth trying only on X22/23/24, X20/21 don't accept anything above 256MB low-density sticks.faberryman wrote:Has anyone tried one of the 1GB chips in an X2x laptop. I'd love to have more memory in my X24.
Since the seller doesn't ship outside US, I can't try it. And T23 owners could try it also since they share the same i830 chipset. X30 BTW has this chipset too.
