Another quick question between T20 800 and T23 1.13?

#1 Post by fb3 » Sat Jan 08, 2005 3:04 am

I've been shopping on eBay again and have located what appear to be a number of very good condition T23s at about the $525 mark and some T20s at the $400 mark. THey appear to be in very fine condition (seller is showing actual photos of actual items).

Could someone more experienced (means almost anyone) walk me through a quick comparison between the 20 and the 23? Are there overwhelming advantages to the 23, or, for the 400, does the T20 seem like a better deal?

Thanks

I don't recall the exact differences of the two laptops (wrt chipsets etc) but I can tell you that the 1.13 and 1.2 PIII that the T23s use are so good that sometimes they surpass P4 1.6 chips in speeds. Also, I don't remember whether the P3-800 is a mobile chip or not, in which case you lose flexibility and battery power. Also, I believe T20s did not come with wireless/BT antennae, while quite a few T23s do. In any case, I would recommend the T23, I believe $100 is not that much for a better laptop.

Hope this helps

fb3,

I have right now a T20 and a T23 (of which I'm getting rid off), as you probably know. The T20 is a very fine machine as is the T23, but the fan is incredibly loud. The construction seems to be similar, but the T20 seems to be a little more sturdy.

As far as speed and capabilities go...the T23 would be the way to go. Faster FSB speed (133 vs 100 if I remember correctly). The maximum RAM you can install in a T20 is 512 Mb vs 1Gig in the T23.
If you can get a 1400x1050 (SXGA+) screen on a T23 do so (unless your sight is not very good), because the amount of real state that you get in the screen improves dramatically in comparison to a regular XGA (1024x768).

As far as buying in eBay...you don't want to know my opinion. But if you do, make sure you use your Visa.
