BSOD with vista 64

Hi all,

I have really trouble with my T500. I have at least 2 bluescreens a day. The error code, most of the time is:
0x00000050 or PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA

But I also had already usb.sys or ntfs.sys all this stuff.
Operating system is vista 64.

Any clue what I could try?

You have 4 gb of RAM?

I have 8Gig of RAM.

I am trying now to stress test the RAM modules over night. I am using only one 4Gig Module during the day.
Tonight I ran memtest on one module, but there was no error.

4 days ago, I did run a windows vista memory test with the 2 modules installed, and I got an error. But I could not reproduce. The strange thing with the windows memory tool is when you try to change the options (e.g. run extended tests and change the number or runs) the program gets so slow that it is practically useless.

If the machine is under warranty, you might assemble the facts you have and request the machine be serviced.

I have a T61p with Vista Business 64-bit, and it never blue screens.

There have been some threads here about problems with Vista 64 and 4 GB of RAM - that's why I asked.
Lenovo says that they don't support 64-bit systems in T500 (although sell them) and they will probably do nothing in that matter.
I suppose your problem is caused by memory and if I were in your place - I would put just 2 GB of RAM for a try (if you have some 2 GB module available).

On nVidia chipsets, I've had success installing the OS with 2 GB RAM, installing the latest chipset drivers FIRST THING along with all the other drivers, and then piling in the rest of the RAM. Vista DOES NOT like > 3 GB RAM with its default chipset driver.

Thanks all for your posts, I am pretty sure I nailed it down to one of the 4GByte sodimm's.

Yesterday I worked the whole day with the first 4Gig in Slot 1 and no crash at all. Also mem test did not show any error.

Today I tried the same with the other one, and after 4 hours of work the thing started bluescreening like crazy. I had 4 bluescreens within half an hour.

So I will send this back to crucial to be replaced.

My T400 came installed with 4GB and Vista 64. No problems... so I think you are right... especially given the way you've tested.

Memory failure is rare these days... I'm wondering who made it, and where you got it.

I suggest you doing one more thing.
First you left your laptop with just one '4 GB module' and everything worked fine.
It doesn't mean that the memory module taken out is broken.
Try to switch memory modules now - take the 'good memory module' out and put the 'bad memory module' in it's place.
If it works fine too - it's not a defective memory module but some other problem.

thats exactly what I did. Using the other module produced bluescreens like crazy (all different kinds, usb.sys, tcpip.sys, win32k.sys ...)

Now I am using the good 4 Gig module + one of the 2 Gig modules that came with the machine.

Since three days, no bluescreen

In regards to manufacturer it is the crucial part number #CT51264BC1067. I already opened a ticket and received a RMA number. So I will send it back and let all know how it goes.

Ok, since some of you wanted to know how the RMA with the 4Gig Module was handled by Crucial:
I was shipping the Memory back to the US about 2 weeks ago. Yesterday I received the a new exchanged module. I think thats pretty good.

The only problem for me was UPS. I think they messed it up or custom messed it up. I had to pay VAT a second time, how stupid is that. I mean its not a real issue for me since I can reclaim the VAT with my tax return. But still, I had to put down another 100 Euro for stupid VAT,even though the invoice clearly said RMA and that there is no charge to the Customer.

Otherwise, I love my T500 with 8 Gig of Memory.
