Best Linux support for X31
Best Linux support for X31
What it is the Best Linux distribution, in order to get the best Support and Drivers for the Thinkpad X31 ?, I mean Redhat, Suse, Fedora, Mandrake ?, please your comments, thanks
I've used RedHat 6-9 with all my thinkpads without problems, i.e. sound, video, net, power saving have worked flawlessly. Kernel recompilation is required though, but is trivial.
There are plenty of guides how to install linux on thinkpads, for example http://rooster.stanford.edu/~ben/linux/ibm.html
HTH,
Antti

I just installed Xandros Business Edition on my T23. Everything seems good to me.
Lindows also has a laptop specific edition.
These distros are tailored to windows converts but they are not free. Xandros charges for the Operating system but gives the extra programs away, Lindows gives the Operating system away but charges for the extra programs.
Both come with tech support.
Xandros gives away a 30 day trial version of their Business Edition if you ask them for it.
You could check the respective forums and search for "X31" or "thinkpad" to see what problems others have had.

The X31 uses fairly standard parts so all linux distros should in theory work perfectly with everything but the modem (which can be fixed). I personally use Gentoo, but feel free to try many of them (best ones in my opinion are Gentoo and Mandrake 10, both work perfectly. Fedora Core 2 was too buggy for me to use).
