New T42 with SP2 - locked out of Disk Management?

#1 Post by kevinh » Sat Jan 08, 2005 12:50 pm

I'm having some trouble with SP2. I can't access Disk Management, even as "administrator", to change drive letter assignments. I get the following message:

Unable to connect to Logical Disk Manager service

You do not have assess rights to Logical Disk Manager on ...

I have absolutely no problem accessing Disk Management in an SP1a image on the same T42. Is this some new SP2 feature from Nannysoft to protect us from ourselves? I'm the administrator; I should be able to do anything to this system, even destroy it if I so choose. Anyone else having trouble accessing Disk Management in SP2? Thanks.

It's not an SP2 problem. One thing you might try is downloading (if you haven't already) the complete SP2 file (272 Mb) and re-installing SP2. Disk management works fine for me on my T41. The other thing you might try is logging in as Administrator and trying it from that user ID. If Administrator doesn't have a password, now is the time to set it.

Well, this issue seems to have resolved itself. I booted into DOS version of Partition Magic and hid one of my NTFS partitions, and then rebooted into XP SP2 to find that Disk Management was now available. Ahh, the MYSTERIES of Windows.
