which one to get T42 14" or 15" or wait for T43 ?

#1 Post by danny_isr » Sat Jan 08, 2005 1:40 pm

I’m really lost on this one.
Had in mind all the time to get the T42 15" with 1.7Ghz and Radeon 9600-64M. model 2379DXU.
Then i thought to myself, in the price difference from the 14" ( model 2378FVU) i can buy 17" LCD monitor and use it at home , while caring lighter laptop around.

then i notice that the 14" missing few things :
bleu tooth, 256M less , 20G less and only 5400RPM , no Flex view screen and the 15" got "Graphics type SXGA+ IPS"

1) what is IPS ??

i have a friend that works at IBM , if he will buy it for me i can get the 15" for 1950 after tax and the 14 for about 1600 or so.

bottom line seems the 14" is actually more expensive then the 15" if i will add the missing things to it (and if it was even possible).

i was reading here mix things about the quality of the regular 14" screen.
and better opinion on the 15” flexes view.

2) so how the 14” screen really is ( 1400x1050) ?

i really want a small laptop (i'm on HP dv1000 after Compaq x1000 and i like them small ! its worth the smaller screen IMO ).

3) when the T43 will show up , and when actually i could buy one ?

4) is it worth the wait ?

5) will the T43 14" come with the flexview screen ?

6) Can i expect after the release date to see a drop of price on the current models ?

thanks Danny

1) IPS is in-plane-switching, a technology that allows for higher contrast and wide viewing angles. The drawback is that it consumes more power.
2) The 14.1" SXGA+ 1400x1050 is a nice screen.
3) Announcement next week, availability in a month or two.
4) If you want the faster ATI Radeon X300 or X600-based FireGL video card, then yes.
5) FlexView is only available on the 15" SXGA+ 1400x1050 and 15" UXGA 1600x1200 screens.
6) Probably.

HI.

Do you think T42 prices will drop next week when T43 is released, or not until Feb/March when T43's are actually available.

I need to buy, I'm really itching to buy, but would wait a week if prices were to drop. But if they won't drop for 6wks I'll just save up and buy the T43. THanks much.

i was thinking about the battery life on the 15".. .if its higher contrast couldnt i technically have more freedom to lower the contrast to match the 14" and get better battery life...?

Hi
If you are used of the the 14" t series then I highly recomend you see the 15" before you order one. I jumped on the 15" when it came out only to be dissapointed by the form factor and weight - I ended up ebaying it for a 23733UU instead.
