Thinkpads the greatest ever?

Unless you've used a Mac for any length of time, and not some ancient one that you played with at a school computer lab,

actually i liked that ancient one more than the 10 series. but lets not get into O.S. wars, its pointless... I actually like the newest mac released just in october. Im gonna check it out and I might buy that istead of a new thinkpad. i will really miss trackpoint but i really gave up on lenovo.

I really miss the trackpoint too. I HATE touchpads of any sort, and even though Apple's is good as touchpads go, that is still saying very little and far from praise.

OS 9 was much loved by many, but it was not a modern OS any more than Windows ME was a modern OS. For all of its great interface elements, it lacked modern OS features such as protected memory ad preemptive multitasking. Mac users actually complained loudly about OS X, and in the early versions, rightly so. It wasn't until 2002's Jaguar (10.1) version that you use it to get real work done, and not until late 2003's Panther (10.3) that it its interface was mature and consistent. Tiger (10.4) was the first with a fully modern graphics system and that is the reason why not many recent applications work on any version older than Tiger.

OS X took a long time to become a modern and mature OS, 7 years to be precise, and only after 5 years with Tiger did most Mac users finally abandon the "classic mode".

I had an R61, a Lenovo model, and actually found build quality to be better than most IBM ThinkPads I've had, included the vaunted T42p. While it didn't rival my old 600E, it was clearly "2nd best" and actually had better build quality than consumer level Macs (not better than pro).

The move to Lenovo really didn't bother me, and all Lenovo ThinkPads I've had (the R61, an R60, a T60 and a T60p) have been outstanding, its only Windows that made me move away.

600e's have been sort of honored as really nice thinkpads. I have one, and it died. ;__; That was one of the saddest days of my life! I would take a modern version of that laptop. But I'd just as soon buy an x61 tablet if I had the money. >_>

I had a 560 once, back in the day, and liked it rather well. The only thing I didn't like was the screen, but that was because I was poor and had to settle for passive matrix.

I love both my Macs and my PC's. I have several Mas ranging from an SEFD to a 1.67GHz PBG4 as well as an 8500,8600 and BeigeG3 MT and finally my G5 tower.

I also own several PC's with my main machine being the T60 this post is being typed on. I love the design of thinkpads and always have had atleast 1 laying around over the years. The only thing I want is a backlit keyboard and OS X support and I'd be set for life.

IMO OS X is the superior OS with Lenovo/IBM laptops being superior in terms of hardware capabilities and upgradability to the Macbook / MBpro.

The 560's are very cute machines. *ahem*
The 560's are very nice little machines. It's just that the standard model lacks a USB port and their age is shown in speed. I really love the form factor though.
