t400 few issues

#1 Post by truk » Fri Oct 24, 2008 12:30 pm

I just got OSX on my t400. It went on, and seems to run fairly smooth. I do however, have three issues.

#1 PCMCIA The only non-intel network card I have that will work is right now a broadcom pc-card wireless card. I need to get the PC-card slot working to do this.

#2 Sound I have one more driver I have not tried for sound, but it does not seem to be working. Any idea what driver I should be using?

#3 USB I have an ATMEL USB wireless card, and I have no idea how to get it working.

If anyone can even start to point me in the right direction, I'd be delighted. I'm new to working with non-mac hardware on OSX, so the obvious might not be to me. Thanks!

Few Ideas

#2 Post by jackg330 » Tue Oct 28, 2008 8:39 am

Hey, truk
I did own T60p (ATI Mobility) and T61p (NVidia Quadro FX570).

I had success with Kalyway installation on T60p (T61p)
With T61p the main problem Video is not supported yet, though
success was reported with the same video card on HP platform.

Read carefully this topic on this forum:
"Thinkpad T61 / T61p Leopard Install and Modification Guide."
It could give you a lot of ideas.

Scan your T400 with devcon.exe utility (windows)
It will list all your hardware device id:

Try:
C:\devcon find pci\* > devices.txt

It will create a text file with all of your pci devices listed.

Find out what audio chip/device you have and search the net for appropriate audio driver. (Read about taruga effort)

I was able to have a working internal speaker sound on both
T60p and T61p.

This will get you started.

I am assuming you have dual video card (Intel and ATI) on your T400?
They will be eventually supported with full acceleration.

RE:OSX

Thanks for the reply! I did go on and manage to find out how to get sound working, although that isn't my main concern. IDeneb, the version I'm using, actually offers the driver I need in the installation menu (one of the three I opted to leave out).

My main concern now is trying to get network running. My brother has been talking about buying an internal broadcom adapter for his Dell, but that doesn't appeal to me since I have no money and not much of a liking for OSX (this is the first time I've tried it since 10.2.) As for PC cards, I'm not getting an error, it simply does not work. There doesn't seem to be power getting to the card. I may try the patch anyway, but I don't believe it will work.

Another issue I'm having is with USB. It doesn't seem like it's working except from boot (no plug and play.) I don't see anything like this mentioned for the t6x line. Any ideas. Thanks!

So there is a driver for the graphics card? Or is it just a "generic VGA card". That would be pretty cool if both graphics card on the T400 are supported.

IT'S ALIVE

#5 Post by truk » Fri Dec 12, 2008 7:30 pm

Got most of the stuff working. I have a broadcom PC card working using the kext from the guide mentioned above (even though I wasn't getting an error,) ethernet using the 8256mm driver (no modifications needed, just worked,) and sound through AppleAzaliaAudio.kext (I think it's also on the ideneb DVD) I also installed ATIinject.kext and the ACPI kext since I didn't think the power button worked right, but it does now. I still don't have USB working right (flash drive work if booted with them,) the webcam (may be related to USB, but bluetooth works fine,) or the graphics cards. The 5300 wireless card also does not work. I also have applications that run at startup, but are not listed to, enter renames instead of opens, but command-o does instead. Anyway, if anyone has a driver for the usb and webcam, I think I can get graphics working and everything should be set!

Hi all,

Any news on using Leopard on T400? I have just installed Iatkos 10.5.5 and I have several issues - most notably I can not get higher resolution than 1024x768 (my screen is 1440x900). I know that there are still no drivers for Ati x3470 or the integrated card, but is there a way to get higher resolution than 1024x768?
Are there any drivers for Intel 5300 wireless?
Is there any better distro than IAtkos?

Many thanks for all the help,

Kind regards,

Hrvoje

i still am having the same issue with both graphics cards, I'm only getting 1150 by w/e. I somehow managed a widescreen resolution using a kext I found somewhere... Anyway, there is supposedly a workaround, and maybe even a driver. I haven't had time and ambition to figure it out yet. Let me know if you make any progress and I'll do the same.

Hey truk

It would be nice if you could post the patches you have choosen to install iDeneb.
I am trying to install iDeneb 1.4 (10.5.6) on VMware 6.5.2 at the moment and can not find the right combination of patches.
After the first reboot the system returns the following error message:
VMware Workstation 6.5.2 wrote:Virtual machine kernel stack fault (hardware reset)
The virtual machine just suffered a stack fault in kernel mode. On a real computer, this would amount to a reset of the processor. It can be caused by an incorrect configuration of the virtual machine, a bug in the operating system, or a problem in the VMware Workstation software. Press OK to reboot virtual machine or Cancel to shut it down.
Here is my configuration:

Modell: Lenovo ThinkPad T400 2765 D2G
Processor: Intel Core 2 Duo P8600 2.4GHz
Motherboard: Lenovo ThinkPad T400, Intel Cantiga GM45
IDE Controller: Intel(R) ICH9M-E/M SATA AHCI Controller
Video: Switchable Graphics: Mobile Intel(R) 4 Series Express Chipset Family, ATI Mobility Radeon HD3470 256
Audio: Conexant Cx20561 @ Intel 82801IB ICH9
LAN-NIC: Intel 82567LM
Wireless: Intel WiFi Link 5300AGN
Firewire Controller: Ricoh RL5C832

Further I made a screenshot of the customize setup so you can easily mark the correct patches.

I am looking forward to hear from you.
Cheers, JJ

Hello.

I managed to find a patch configuration that runs the installation.
xingge79 wrote in the chinese forum weiphone.com ...
  • [Patches 10.5.6 Ready]-[Chipset]-[ICHx Fixed]
  • [Patches 10.5.6 Ready]-[Network]-[Ethernet]-[Intel 82566 Series]
  • [Patches 10.5.6 Ready]-[Fix]-[BatteryManager]
  • [Applications]
The installation runs through.
Though, I luckely took a snapshot with VMware before I restarted the MacOSX the first time: VMware does not find a operation system after, (Error message: Operating System not found).

I will check if the partition is marked 'active' - this could be a reason why the system does not start up.
Cheers, JJ
