Fresh T400 - Vista fresh install

#1 Post by Czechnology » Fri Oct 24, 2008 5:34 pm

I hope I'm not duplicating anything but I haven't found any topic dedicated to this.

I've got my T400 today and so far I'm more or less satisfied.

To get a real fresh start, I would like to do a new clean Vista installation on the new machine.
I have found this guide: http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=294974
Any notes and/or hints on that?

Thanks in advance ;)
(i don't want to screw up anything, since I have practically no experience with Vista yet)

Problem is, Lenovo didn't send me the Vista installation disc, although I've checked that option. Can I get it somewhere? Or what should I do?

So, here are two more things I'd like to know:
- Someone told me, that with the Ultimate version of Vistas, it's possible to download a different language for the OS via the updates.
- Another information would be that all the 32bit versions are shipped on the same DVD and just the one for which one has a valid license gets installed.

Can someone confirm these please? And moreover - has someone with Premium or Ultimate really *tried* changing the language? Does really everything in the OS get changed to the other language?
Because I guess I could possibly find here someone with german Business Vista or similar.

Thanks again ;)

In Vista, any user Interface language is a language pack, so an English Vista is the core Vista with the English UI pack while a German Vista is the core Vista with a German UI pack. It might be though that on a German Vista DVD the German UI is enabled by default and the English UI is actually missing.

On the retail Vista DVD, multiple Vista editions are captured in a single install.wim on the DVD. When you go through setup and enter you license key, setup picks the correct image and applies it.

Ultimate can add languages via Windows Update. In Vista multi language is working much better than in XP but to get a 100% localized UI you need to change settings in several areas and don't install any add-ons or OEM packages until after the OS is in it's final language configuration.

That's correct for all version of Vista Ultimate.

That is correct for full retail versions only.

Cheers,
