Use a port replicator and use the dvi-out or like I do I use a dvi to hdmi cable (assuming your lcd has those ports) you could try s video however from past experience the resolution via s-video is low and unbearable IMO

My LCD tv has a VGA port, so its just VGA to VGA, works just as a normal external monitor would.

As well as me - my Sony TV is equipped with VGA connector and normal 3.5mm jack (for audio input) - no problems to use it for movies 8)

From time to time, I connect my T43 to a 30" Philips HDTV from a Port replicator via DVI-HDMI cable ... it's not great, but I can watch instant-view movies from Netflix like that.

Best quality is via DVI or VGA, if your TV is compatible. Failing that, for games and movies you can use an S-video to S-video cable or, if it's a really old TV, an S-video to composit adapter cable (couple of bucks on e-bay).

This is what I do (with a mini-dock). Used ones are really cheap.

as said above, port replicator + DVI to HDMI adapter is best
something else you might wanna watch out for, is the resolution your TV supports if you're going via VGA. If you have a 1080p unit, some HDTVs won't take the full resolution over VGA, only HDMI. If your panel is 720p, then you've got nothing to worry about

Try to enable to option "Extend my Windows desktop onto this monitor" for the second display in Display Properties (right click on the desktop and choose Properties -> Settings).
