Power Manager ... FN+F3 scheme choice takes forever to come

#1 Post by davidspalding » Thu Oct 30, 2008 12:46 pm

I upgraded my antiqued Power Manager 1.13c to the latest-greatest (1.47? I'm at work and can't recall). The options within Power Manager are great (more extensive options for closed lid), but the FN+F3 option to switch power schemes is taking for-EVER to come up. So long that other programs started after it load up before. Once or twice, I simulated lid-close (which I have set to only turn off the LCD), and the scheme menu came up immediately on the LCD powering back on.

Has anyone else experienced this?

i'm running 1.30b and don't have any issues. i've never tried 1.4x as i've not seen anything in the changelog that interested me. not sure if it has all the lid-closed options of 1.4x, but wanna try 1.30b?

Thanks, I actually found Battery Maximizer 1.38, a later version of what you've got. I've tried that route before (using the T40/41/42 Battery Maximizer software) and it was stable, but lost a couple of features the T43 software supports.

to clarify, i'm not using battery maximizer at all. it's not even installed on my machine. i only use power manager on my t43. i've got a number of different versions archived in my driver library.

IIRC I believe I found that Battery Maximizer was the software that supported T40s, T41s, T42s, and the Power Manager supports T43s. I ran Power Manager on a T41 a couple of jobs ago, and it worked.

Edit: OH, I see what you're saying. I didn't find any reference to 1.30b online so I presumed you were referring to Maximizer. My mistake.

---

Last night I rolled back to Power Manager 1.13c, hoping the lastest Power Management Drivers would be compatible. So far, no worries. And where it took 35-45 seconds for the FN+F3 "Choose Power Scheme" menu to appear with PM 1.47  , it's back to 3 seconds for 1.13c. :D

That's good enough empirical evidence for me.

I also was having trouble with the FN+F5 menu for Access Connections 4.52 (last version before more recent 5.02, which was reported having problems), slow to come up not coming up at all. So I rolled back to 4.12. Problem gone. ... I may even roll further to 3.82, which I recall was quite stable, and 4.x just added new stuff for the Z60s.

... System Update's going bye-bye this morning ... it no longer offers any value at all.

Addendum: I rolled back Access Connections to 3.82. After some adjustment issues, recalling how this version, I'm happy I did. Working quite rapidly. The FN+F5 menu comes up lickety-split.
