Can my R40 use the IBM Intel PRO 2200BG Mini-PCI Card?

#1 Post by Helix » Sun Jan 09, 2005 7:36 pm

Hi there,

I have seen a lot of threads concerning standard Intel Mini-PCI cards and Bios lockouts. I would like to buy a "IBM Intel PRO/Wireless 2200BG Mini-PCI Adapter", model 73P2802 from my local supplier, but my 2722 R40 is not listed as a supported model.

Can anyone verify whether this card will will or won't work? I don't want 802.11a at all, so the extra price for the 31P9701 seems a waste to me (it is double the price in Australia, at $155 compared to $89 for the "IBM Intel PRO/Wireless 2200BG Mini-PCI Adapter" one.

Thanks!

Josh

No, the card has to come from IBM. IBM sell the intel cards, which will work on thinkpads, but other intel ones will not work.

Yeah, I am talking about the genuine IBM card. I even gave the IBM part number.

Sorry, i diddn't see that part. It should work. I'm getting mine next week so will confirm whether it does indeed work. Mine is also an R40 2722.

According to IBMs website "IBM ThinkPad T40, R40, and X31 models with integrated 802.11b wireless Mini PCI adapters and UltraConnect antenna may upgrade their systems to 802.11g". I don't think all model R40s have mini pci slots.

I got mine off ebay for AU$65! I've already flashed my machine so it should be ready to accept it (i hope).

I tried the mother-in-laws R40 with my (non-IBM, got-it-cheap-on-ebay) Intel 2200BG after running the no-1802.com hack.
Worked like a charm, no worries at all.

Thanks Guys. I have ordered one as well, so even if I need to no1802 it, it should work.

Cheers,

Josh

Man IBM is annoying.

Well, got the card, tried to instll it using "IBM approved" software on my R40 and it didn't work. Frustrated the hell out of me so just ended up using the no1802 hack. Thanks for letting us know that Dave0.

Antenna indicator LED not working

#9 Post by dcaputi » Sat Mar 12, 2005 4:55 pm

Hey,

I read this thread, bought a 2200bg off eBay for $10 :D, installed it with the following:
1. no-1802 hack
2. Intel Pro 2200BG adapter driver (8.1.0.28 )
3. IBM AccessConnections (3.70)
4. IBM Hotkey (1.11.0402)

Installs 2,3,4 were required according to the IBM website.

IT WORKS!!!

one problem: the Antenna LED does not light up. ANY IDEAS ???

Hint: when I hit Fn+f5 I get an error "IBM Wireless adapters (802.11 or Bluetooth) are not installed on this system" ... but then it invokes the Location Profile (black) access dialog - no problem.

Try uninstalling ibm connections software, and using the drivers only configure wireless thru windows. winxpprosp2
