Original America's Time Zone Wallpaper

#1 Post by Mr_Roboto » Sun Jan 09, 2005 7:45 pm

I just did a "fresh" install of XP. Like a dummy I did not backup IBM's default wallpaper (blue map of the world with time zones). Sadly I have grown quite fond of it and I can not seem to find it any where. I have read the FAQs, including #13, and the previouse posts have dead links. Can any one help?

Thanks,

Rich

I wish Bill or someone would post these for download. I too would love these. Had them on one install, and somehow I've looked, but can't find them recently.

No need for all this email silliness. You can get them all here:

ftp://ftp.pc.ibm.com/pub/pccwww/ww/thinkpad/wallpaper/
T60p (200784U) - standard (no upgrades... yet)

Nice site for wallpaper but I believe others have mentioned before that these are not the ones that people are looking for.

These are the ones that people like :

800 x 600 IBM Americas Map.bmp
1024 x 768 IBM Americas Map.bmp
1280 x 1024 IBM Americas Map.bmp
1400 x 1050 IBM Americas Map.bmp
1600 x 1200 IBM Americas Map.bmp

Useful to some, but not what was being asked for.
Your reference is to a black background without timezone lines.

People usually ask for "(blue map of the world with time zones)" with timezone lines running vertically.

The wallpaper from the download site is the back one with the time zones of the world (even if it says WPAmericas), but the N. America in the middle. It does not have the red vertical lines. That's what I was looking for, so it was nice to get them. I would however like to see the "old" ones....but might be the same as what was sent to me by email. I'll have to go and check...haven't installed them yet.

I agree that the IBM Time Zone wallpaper that came with my new T42p was farily nice and tasteful, I got to thinking that why not try to find a better world map to use as wallpaper. One that actually has detail.

So I did some searching around and didn't find any really nice world maps in 1600x1200. Even National Geographic's web site didn't have any good map wallpaper that I could find.

Then after some more googling, I discovered the Earthview software by DeskSoft:

http://www.desksoft.com/EarthView.htm

Let me tell you this is the absolute coolest wallpaper I have ever had. You can download a 14 day free trial but the full version costs $25. This software will put a satellite photo of the earth on your desktop that is completely customizable. You can zoom it in and out, add markers for any city you want that will display the current local time at that ciity, etc. etc. The really cool thing is the night and day feature which will darken the parts of the globe that are in night and then bring on all the city lights.

I'm stilll playing around with this softwware and not getting work done. I'll put a shot of my displays running this wallpaper over on the thread where people are posting photos of their thinkpad setups.
