T500 Fingerprint log on?

#1 Post by salin » Sat Nov 01, 2008 10:19 am

I have the fingerprint option on my T500. My fingerprints have been scanned to the system.
How do I go about setting up my log on to use the fingerprint scan instead of using my password?

Thanks, John

Assuming you have the latest version of the fingerprint software you could start the "Lenovo fingerprint software" and you should a "settings" option on the toolbar. Under the authentication tab you should find a checkbox to enable the use of fingerprint during logon to windows.

I have the option checked to start with fingerprint scan. But when I use the scan, I get "Invalid Computer Name.
Maybe I should delete all my scans and start over.

I had the same problem with "Invalid computer name" error just a few days ago. I don't know why it happened and not sure if the problem is solved yet, but seems like it started after i installed a new VPN client. What i did so far is to change the order of my network adapters under "Manage Network Connections". The adapter for the new VPN client appeared on top and i moved it below the LAN, WLAN and WAN adapter. While you are in the "Manage Network Connections" you can press the ALT key once and the menu will appear. Then you should have an advanced option, then select "Advanced settings". I don't know for sure if this change have solved the problem, but have not seen this problem after i did that change.
Anyway i don't think deleting the fingerprint and start over will solve this problem. I tried that as well and also reinstalled the fingerprint software without solving the problem before i change the order of my network adapters. It might sound strange that the order of the network adapters have anything to do with the problem, but since the problem started on my computer after i installed a VPN client it could be related. My computer is also member of a domain.

I also have a VPN, and the VPN is listed under NETWORK CONNECTIONS, however it does not show up in the list of networks under ADVANCED SETTINGS.
In NETWORK CONNECTIONS the VPN is the last one on the list.
I did not have this problem with my T60.
I guess I'll have to call Lenovo for some assistance.

Then i'm not sure what the problem is. I never had this problem before either before i installed the new VPN client. The VPN client i'm talking about is the Cisco AnyConnect Client. The Cisco client have an own virtual network adapter which is why i can find it under the Advanced Settings. Do you use the VPN feature built into Windows or do you have a separate client installed? Just curious...

In my case the problem didn't happen after a restart, but after a standby/resume.

Re: T500 Fingerprint log on?

I have a related problem with my T500. Fingerprint logon works like a charm if the machine is in a workgroup configuration. However, as soon as I join the machine to a domain, swiping my finger results in a green "succeeded" message, followed by an error message: "The domain name is invalid." I did not see this behavior on my previous T60.

Any ideas?
