Louder with wireless mini pci?
Hello, I have a T41 and recently a friend of mine installed the IBM 11 a/b/g Wireless Lan Mini PCI card, and it seems like my computer is louder. Before installing the card, I really don't notice how loud the computer was but now it seems as if the fan or something is always running. Is it because of the wireless card or has it always been like that, but I've never noticed?

I think the same thing happened to me, and there is a reason for this.
I've noticed that the area under the touchpad gets pretty warm - warmer than the CPU, HDD, or RAM (if you have RAM in the extra bay). This area houses the ICH4-M and the Wireless card socket. The Wireless card basically gets stacked on top of the ICH4-M southbridge.
Both the ICH4-M and WiFi card seem to consume more power than other chips in the system. Because they are not attached to the cooling system, they tend to heat up and stay warm throughout the operation of the computer. My guess is that there is a thermal sensor that monitors these temps and runs the CPU fan to attempt to cool the rest of the system down.
I don't have the link, but IBM's site says that the CPU fan may run continuously to cool down the system as a whole and not just the CPU.
