Unlike Vista, XP does not have the ability to partition itself with the operating system and/or data onboard.

This article shows you how to partition on a BLANK drive when installing XP:

A better (easier and quicker) solution would be Partition Magic or Acronis Disk Director. They run about $40.00. I only have used Acronis, and it's excellent. Disk Director will resize partitions without overwriting the operating system or data.

These are programs that you can use forever and are very simple to run.

Assuming you want to create a second partition on your current drive, without destroying any existing data, then you will need something like mgo has suggested. There are also freeware programs that are available:

http://www.partition-tool.com/download.htm (Easeus Partition Manager)
http://shareware.pcmag.com/product.php% ... ID%5Dpcmag (Easeus review at PCMag.com)
http://www.thefreecountry.com/utilities ... tors.shtml (List of free partition managers)

As with all programs which fools around with your hard drive data, it's best to first create a backup (image or clone) before running anything that will potentially disrupt your system.

Thank you very much Rkawakami and Mgo. I use Easeus Partition Manager as you suggested and it works just perfect.
