Here is the situation:
T43, 2687-D4U
Intel 2915 wireless card, updated driver
University network, no modem, linksys wrt54G v. 5 updated firmware router
Network connection is not reliable, but my son (Mac Book) is able to get on abut 85% of the time and when he gets bounced, he gets back on. My wife (X32, same Intel card) is able to get on about 70% of the time.
My success is MUCH less, frequently bounced and cannot get on, then, without doing anything, am back on.
I have tried stopping the DNS client in administrative services, no benefit.
Operation is no different if I cable into the router directly or access neighbors' wireless, they are still more successful.
The operation of my unit elsewhere is fine. I am thinking that there is something about the combination of the lousy connection AND some software setting on my T43 that exacerbates the problem.
I am about to reformat the hard drive but would like to avoid this until the end of the semester, any hints???

Well, check the usual stuff like the power manager turning off power to your wireless card, etc.

Well, I had become convinced that it was an XP problem, given all the details (yes, I had changed the channel of the router).
I had been wanting to try a Linux install and thought this was the moment. I bought a copy of Fedora 7 on the streets of Guangzhou, China ($.84 US), popped into the DVD player and installed it without a hiccup.
Internet s fine now for almost 24 hours, I switch back to XP and there is no connection, so it seems that the OS is the problem. Full clean up will need to await my return to the US at the end of next month.
Thanks to all who wrote it...

(The middle scroll button is not working, I will take the problem elsewhere)
