W500: Which Windows OS?

I have ordered a Lenovo W500 (Intel Core 2 Duo, 2.53 GHz, 4GB RAM, 320GB HDD) for personal use, and I want to install an operating system on it (it is shipped without OS). Which Windows OS do you recommend regarding the system specs (especially the 4GB of RAM issue, which needs an X64 OS to be fully used)? Shall I use Vista 64-bit, or XP/Vista 32-bits? I've been a XP user until now, and have heard many complains about Vista. If you vote for Vista 64-bit, do all softwares and games that run on 32-bit OS run on X64 as well?

I'm currently running Windows Server 2003 Enterprise 32-bit on my W500. With PAE, it supports all 4gb of ram. However, I am contemplating a move to Sever 2008 x64 (reboot to change graphics cards gets old fast, no matter how little you do it). I'd say go for Vista 64, if you can put up with its Vista issues.

I agree although I'm running it without any issues. I guess it all depends what software you want to run on the OS. I'm a web designer so I use photoshop and related adobe apps. The machine is wicked fast. I also have it looking liking XP because I can't stand the cutsie interface.

If you have a 64-Bit computer, you might want to get a start with Vista. I ripped out Aero and other stuff that slows me down. So now my T61 64-bit computer runs Vista Business nicely. I have it looking and working like XP, but I grow more knowlegeable about Vista as the days wear on. That will serve me well for Windows 7.

If you're going to run Windows, and go 64 bit, Vista is probably your best bet. You can trim it down to run well on most machines.
