Trying to install Broadcom network adapter, but can't.

#1 Post by upygiki » Tue Nov 04, 2008 4:24 pm

Found a Dell mini-PCI adapter and am trying to install it. So far, I haven't had much luck. There are drivers for it on the net, but some give errors like "software not compatible with hardware". I did get one really old driver to work, but its back from '02 which doesn't support WPA.

Here is the model info:

On the adapter's circuit board: BCM94301MP
On the adapter's "little black chip": BCM4301KPF

I think the dell calls them "true mobile" or something.

Using a T23 2647-7U5, win 2k sp4.

Thanks.

Not sure which driver to try. Someone mentioned to use a gateway driver, which worked but doesn't support WPA.

Check the last item in this post (driver from HP)
Apparently works with WPA2, so WPA should be a breeze.

I tried a few from HP (including the one above), some of them go through the install but they don't detect the card. I tried to point to the driver folder through windows as well, but the card names do not appear in the dialog box that comes after you have selected the folder in "Have Disk".

I think its a win 2k problem, although all the driver inf files have something in them about 9x/2000. Not sure what though or if it could be hacked to work.

Thanks though.

RBS took care of me on both a laptop and the restore disks.
WAAAAAY easier than my first install with an oem reinstall, which was a PITA!
Drop the cd in, it runs, swap the next cd in, it runs update your done!

Cool, good to hear.

As a FYI for anyone else that stumbles to this thread, the Broadcom chipset on my first post is incompatible with the T23 IF you want to use WPA/WPA2. I only got a gateway driver (version 3.x) to work, and that provided only wep security. All the others from HP or, Broadcom either failed to install or installed but didn't work. This holds true for both win 2k sp4 or xp sp3.

If you don't use Access Connections, but the drivers from whatever site, make sure your Wireless Zero Configuration Service is running!

Another driver to try Belkin's F5D7000-V2.4.5.EXE, download it here:
http://www.belkin.com/support/download/ ... le_id=1425

And then there is this:

I turned on the windows zero config, but that doesn't help.

The Belkin driver works, but its the same version as the gateway, hence no wpa.

The xdrivers doesn't work either, gives a similar error as some of the other ones have given when I launch setup:

---------------------------
Setup Error
---------------------------
No compatible hardware found. The software

you are attempting to install is not supported

on this system.

The software will not be installed.

Setup will now exit.
---------------------------
OK
---------------------------

Thanks for looking into it, RBS.
