A31P (2653) Type ?

#1 Post by 1rogerl » Tue Nov 04, 2008 7:50 pm

Hello Everyone - I just bought a "parts" A31P to repair mine, and I'm trying to determine the type. The sticker on the bottom has been removed and the CMOS display shows blank for the type info.

Is there any other place that will show if it's a H4U, or so on?

I'm trying to get inside it, but can't figure out how to get the keyboard bezel off. There seems to be something just below the mouse keys stopping it from coming off. If I had the complete type number I could download the manual.

Thanks for any help you can offer

======

Hello again,

This "Parts" A31p is a better system than mine so I swapped my CD, HDD, RAM and booted it up. It's working fine except the network card slots are "DOA" when I insert my wireless card. The hardware setup show they are working but there's no power to the card.

Any ideas?

Roger

The only two places where you can find the TYPE number is where you've already looked (bottom of the unit and in BIOS). If there's a blank entry in BIOS, that usually means that the motherboard has been swapped out.

The A3x Hardware Maintenance Manual covers all of the different TYPEs. You only need this one manual for any A3x system:

By "network card slots" are you referring to the two slots on the right side of the system? These are normally called PCMCIA (aka CardBus) slots. If so, then there could be a problem with the interface or you don't have the correct drivers loaded for the wireless card.

Ray,

Thanks for the info. I checked the driver info with my working ox and they are the same. I'm trying to get the keyboard off so I can check and make sure the PCMCIA slots are attached properly. I've had this box open with no problems. The "parts" box seems to have a screw just under the mouse buttons, but I can't see where.

I'll keep plugging away.

Thanks again,
Roger

The back panel of A31p should have a video out port. Between the PC Card slot daughter board and the LCD connector, there should be a chip for the firewire port for A31p. The GPU should be 7800 instead of 7500.

A31P (2653) Type ?

I finally figured this out and it turns out that the "parts" box I bought is a better overall box than the one I normally use. So, I swapped everything the other way. Great deal for $40.00 and FREE Shipping.......

Next task is to install WiFi and get rid of the plug-in card. Are there any compatibility issues I should watch for when buying a WiFi card and antenna?

A30x aren't listed with most of the cards/antenna that I see listed on EBay, so does that matter?

Thanks Again,
Roger

It should drive most of the Atheros AR5001X/5004 cards. I have a no name Ralink 11n cards in A31/A31p.
