UltraNav Left vs. Right Button Issue

#1 Post by Trixie » Thu Nov 06, 2008 4:49 pm

I just noticed when I click the right UltraNav button on my T42 there is a distinctive clicking sound; when I click the left button, however, it feels and sounds just like a normal key press. Also, the upper-left of the button appears to be sitting lower in the casing. Is this a symptom of something being worn out in the left button's assembly?

These laptops are easy to take apart and examine, I'd suggest pulling those pieces up, and making sure there is no crud stuck in there, etc and clean it all out while you have the pieces out. Shouldn't take more than 10-15 minutes.

Yeah, I thought crud might be the culprit. I'll have a look, thanks.

It usually means the button is about worn out. I usually swap the button assembly from one of the cracked touchpads I have around.
