Leather Skin...

#1 Post by khtse » Thu Nov 06, 2008 11:16 pm

I came across this site when I was looking for some anti-fingerprint screen protector for my ipod touch...

Leather skin for laptops!

Have anyone tried these skins? I am thinking of getting the "dark grey" one for my X61. Do you think that color will blend well with the black color of X61?

Hmmm would these work on a X61s?

They should, since the lids of X61 and X61s are the same.

Now you have me tempted... order one and share the results. The wood ones also look interesting just for something different.

Hey,

I'm going to buy one of these but was just wondering if someone already applied such a skin? I'm a bit worried about the logo, since the one on the screenshots says "IBM Thinkpad" in the corner, while I got a "Thinkpad X Series" there. They don't match up dimension wise, so if the leather skin has a hole at the place of the logo, they wouldn't match / fit?

Anyone with experience already?

No doubt you refer to the Thinkpad Reserve Edition.

The Thinkpad X-Series and IBM stickers are interchangeable. Though it doesn't seem like it at all, they're exactly the same size and shape. I replaced the X-Series stickers on my tablet with IBM stickers.

Thanks for that information: really helpfull! Do you have any idea where I can find those IBM stickers (on eBay somewhere?) because to be honest; they're way cooler and more authentic than Thinkpad X-Series...

Yes. This looks like the lowest price, shipping included.

So did anyone order any of those skin listed in the original post? I'm considering a carbon fiber, but concerned if it leaves residue when removing later.... I have never heard of this company SGP though.

I just bought and placed the dark grey leather skin for my X61s. You all might like these shots:

@NEGATiZE: Welcome to our forum!

I think this x61s looks great! The leather color is also in the sense of ThinkPads, good job :thumbs-UP:

BTW, if your pics are larger than 50k, it will be better to turn them into thumbnails or links, and also don´t forget to add a pic/thumbnail warning to your post (in the subject line, if you decide to resize the pics or put thumbnails) ;)

Cheers,

Marin

Thanks for the welcome. I re-sized the thumbnails to a more manageable size.

I'm liking the skin a lot. Highly recommend it! It came professionally packaged and included a nice microfiber cloth and legible, clear instructions for application.

How do you remove it, and is there glue residue left after removal?

It's held on by adhesive. I have not tried to remove it, but I would asume that it would leave some sort of residue behind.

I have also bought a skin for the X61T, the dark wooden one. Looks really great! People really stare at me when I unpack my laptop....that combined with the nice swivel now and then sure does make an entrance complete hehe :)

Applying was simple. Just be precise enough so everything is aligned. Have had it on for a few weeks now and it still fits perfectly and hasn't left off in the corners or anything like that!

Again, thanks for the tip!

Well, its been a few months now... how is the leather holding up? Any scratches, peeling away?

The skin has a silicone adhesive. It can be easily peeled and reapplied and leaves absolutely no residue. I have has a leather one for a year on my X61 Tab and have had no problems. The only downside is that they do not shield the corners, which as we all know get worn the quickest.

So does it move around on it's own since it's so easy to remove? It looks very nice in the photos.
