Is it possible to switch mini pci wlan card (intel a/b) on t40p with other wlan card (intel a/b/g) or should I change cables to?

Yes you can switch it, and no the cables are the same so you can use the ones you currently have.ircr wrote:should I change cables to?

Just make sure to use an IBM/Lenovo card with a FRU number...
BTW your a/b card is Atheros (Phillips) and not Intel...
Hope this helps.

I upgraded the A/B Philips card in my T40p to an Intel 2200BG adapter I bought off eBay for about $20. Works like a charm... with some tweaking... however here is a word of caution: If you do not purchase an IBM branded Wireless-G Mini PCI card (which come at a bit of a price premium unfortunately) you will get the 1802 BIOS error on boot up.
This happened to me, and being the relative cheapskate that I am, I used a workaround to get rid of this error and allow the hardware to work. (offsite): http://www.thinkwiki.org/wiki/Problem_w ... twork_card
If you are not comfortable modifying your BIOS to work with non-authorized cards, then I'd just spend the few extra bucks and try to find an IBM sanctioned card.
I for one am very happy with the Intel Pro Wireless 2200BG card I installed, and have had no adverse effects from the no-1802 patch. This is of course my personal experience, and YMMV

No reason to be ashamed... what's that old Charlton Heston quote? "From my cold, dead hands." I feel that way about my T40pircr wrote:I must say that I really love t40p.

I have a problem. Today I opened my t40 and checked my wifi card. I wanted to switch it with my z61m's intel abg but that card from t40 (philips) is much more bigger!!
Philips wifi from t40p (click me)
How do you call this type of card?? Is it small pci? And what type is then the z61m's smaller wifi card?
Will this card fit in my t40? click!

As long as the Z61m Card is just shorter than the Phillips card you shouldn't have a problem. My intel 2200BG was about 1cm shorter than the Phillips it replaced IIRC.
As long as the z61m card fits in the slot (which it looks like it should from the pics) you should be okay. If the Intel card was bigger, then you would have a problem.

From what I recall, Z61m has mini-PCI-e while T40p has mini-PCI...might be wrong though...
Glad everything worked for you in the end. 2200BG is a fine card.

I need help!
I changed my atheros AB card to Intel 2200 BG card. I only use wifi, because i don't like cables. There is a problem, that the wifi suddenly stops working and the connection is dropped. I can disable wifi or fix the connection but can't connect again...I can only reboot the system and then it's working again for some time.
I changed 2200 with 2915 ABG and I'm using it for a week now but no luck either. When I connect to a new wifi network I must reboot my computer.
I have updated the drivers but no luck..help

The earlier T40's had some problems with the later T4x series wifi cards. Does your FnF5 work properly?

I reconnected cables on wifi card, reinstalled windows xp and updated wifi drivers. I tried to use my wifi in a different location, but it doesn't work good. If my laptop is always on, the connection becomes limited and it helps if I close the lid (sleep) and logon again or reboot.
I will try using college wlan because last week it always disconnected wifi after some time.

ircr: which wifi driver were you using? I also swap in a intel 2200 and did a complete re-install with recovery disc. I then download the intel driver for 2200 from lenovo ( dated 2006 I think ). I've also manually updated Access Connection and other drivers. Everything works perfectly now.
When I first install the driver I used the generic intel driver dated 2008 and it didn't work. But I also didn't do a lot updates on utilities and drivers like the Access Connection. Don't know if this has anything to do with it.

I searched google and finally found a solution.
If I use wlan my lan switches to ''disabled'' but when I connect it with cable it works good. I disabled lan in device manager and now wifi works good.
