T20 with roving Trackpoint pointer

#1 Post by fb3 » Mon Jan 10, 2005 8:01 pm

I bought this T20 on eBay, quite cheap, and it seems pretty clean so far except that the Trackpoint pointing stick is a lot out of control. Cursor runs up to top of screen and tries to stay there, even when you work the pointing stick down.

I haven't tried the plug in mouse yet, but am assuming that'll solve the problem.

If it doesn't, what kind of fix might be indicated by this cursor/pointing stick problem? I've had this problem with other thinkpads, but this seems an extreme case of it.

thanks

If the problem doesn't go away after a few seconds you need a new keyboard. Easy fix, and cheap on ebay.

This is what I was guessing. For the present I have disabled the Trackpoint in the BIOS and am using a wired USB mouse. That seems to work OK, although when I tried Autodisable in BIOS, that did not work. I think it was expecting a mouse in the PS2 port.

Thanks--

no, this is a pure software problem.
The trackpoint needs to be configured to zero-force default.
Uninstall all drivers, use a newer BIOS and install the newest trackpoint tools.
Then it goes away.

I wanted this to be true so I downloaded latest Trackpoint drivers and installed at great risk (wrestling the cursor) to sanity. I got them installed. Alas, no help. I have a new keyboard coming, and I hope that fixes.

Thanks, though.

reduce sensitivity slightly to make it move away.
Anyway, you ordered a new keyboard, so that problem is resolved

Well, if it turns out a software problem, then I don't guess the keyboard is going to help. Now I'm hoping it's a munged up keyboard Trackpoint problem.
