Identifying T42P LCD without opening bezel?
I've just recently purchased a T42p and a T60.
The T42p is a Flexview, and I've been extremely impressed by its performance and contrast and brightness. This even though it is old enough to have the faint lower corner shadowing!
The T60 is a let-down by comparison. It's not a Flexview. Pretty dim.
I went out and picked up an LG Philips Flexview which fits the T60, and was also disappointed with that.
I'm wondering if the T42p has a BOE Hydis LCD in it, and if I should be turning my attentions towards finding a similar unit for the T60.
Tearing open the T60 bezel to swap screens has been no fun at all. I'd prefer not to have to open the T42p to identify its display.
Are there any software tools capable of figuring this out? I did download and try PCWizard. It doesn't give an indication of the make or model of the display.
Thanks in advance for any leads!

I am not sure if this will help but if you look at the parts list online by going to lenovo.com and entering your model and serial number you may be able to get the FRU of the LCD. From there you should be able to find out who the manufacturer is.

Boe Hydis LCDs were NOT offered on T42/p. Your LCD is either ID Tech or LG Phillips.

What's wrong with the LG-Philips Flexview LCD? Whatever differences may be between that and IDTech/Hydis Flexviews are bound to be a million times smaller than between it and any non-Flexview LCD.
From my personal experience and collective experience of others, the LG Flexviews usually tend to have better brightness and colors than the IDTech Flexviews, and are less prone to shadowing issues. However, a number of people have complained about the sparkling effect. Is this what's bothering you?
Also, a T42p has an UXGA Flexview, which as far as I know means only IDTech on the T4x (unless someone custom-fitted a SXGA+ LCD in it).
LG never made any UXGA Flexviews, so you must have purchased a SXGA+ one. So maybe the resolution is what you find insufficient?
The only UXGA LCDs for the T60p are Boe-Hydis, FRUs 13N7076 and 13N7194 (the latter being the sRGB version).

Regarding (1) the OP is referring to T60's - where the original (XGA) LCD was replaced by an SXGA+ panel, the latter made by LG Phillips.dr_st wrote:(1) LG never made any UXGA Flexviews, so you must have purchased a SXGA+ one. So maybe the resolution is what you find insufficient?

Regarding (2) and according to the thread LCDs on T60/T60p - types, availability and other discussions (see e.g. the post by Troels of Sun Feb 10, 2008 7:01 am) some 15" UXGA T60p's (such as the 2623-DDU) were delivered with FlexView/IPS LCD's manufactured by ID Tech (the 42T0345).
UXGA FlexView/IPS LCD panel's for T42p's (IBM P/N: 92P6752, FRU: 92P6753 or 92P6683 or alternatively 42T0356 all being ID Tech panel type N150U3-L01) can be found on eBay frequently, and if you hang around for a while (and if you are a bit lucky!), you may pick an even new one up for all down to $100! (although other auctions on new panels end all up to around $285 these days).
@ Chris Thorne: I suggest you review the thread referenced to above - as it contains many views about UXGA Flexview/IPS's panels made by various manufacturers (especially for T60p's). Moreover, I suggest you search this forum for 13N7076 and 13N7194, and much interesting information will turn up!
