Re: Total solution for absolutely ZERO oscillatory noise in t4x
You need to apply thermal paste between CPU and fan.
We generally recommend "Arctic Silver 5".
Depending on what type of fan you have, you may also need to replace the thermal pad between GPU and fan.

I'm sorry for opening this old (but very useful) thread. Can anyone from the forum confirm, if this solution works for a long term till these days without problems?

This is a plastic element-Copper
it is easy to form
i don't use ane additional tapes etc
just AS5 between cpu-heatsink and gpu-heatsing
edit,
You must remove this space

i recommend use one drop oil for fan
motul gear 300 75w90
ester etc
subaru owners know why
under work in office applications on profile thinpad deafult, gpu have max 55deg, cpu max 53 deg but i have 2.26 cpu. On slower cpu temp is under 50
tpfancontrol fan speed to temp 60 = 1 lev
start 1 lvl from temp 45 deg
long ago forgot about the problem
chhers

Re: Total solution for absolutely ZERO oscillatory noise in t4x
Thanks AdaSch for your reply. May I drill the hole on the bottom side of fan without removing fan's cage from copper basis? Because I don't want to brake a rivets there. Thanks.

remove sticker
nominate a means of geometric in nut
check point
and do hole-slowly and carefully
use 1 drop REAL oil (dont' wd40 )this step its no necessaryn but help in future
thats all.
cheers

Re: Total solution for absolutely ZERO oscillatory noise in t4x
I forgot to write here that a few weeks ago, I also did the mod, and I'm satisfied from the result.
I suppose I didn't do it so perfectly and could have silence it even more, but in any case it is better now.
Thanks AdaSch!
Cheers!

Re: Total solution for absolutely ZERO oscillatory noise in t4x
Hi! I drilled a 2mm hole in the bottom of the fan about two months ago, applied sewing machine oil and it cured the pulsating fan noise! Also removed the thermal pad off the GPU, bent the heath sink to sit flush on the GPU and re-applied Arctic Silver 5.
Undervolted with RMClock+TPFC=almost silent, cool and nice laptop!Highly recommended mod!
PS:when drilling the hole DO NOT go all the way through, stop when you can see the fan shaft.
Thanks Adash
