What do your DVD drive description say?

When you go to My Computer, and you see the drives, under the "type column" what does it say for your DVD-drive? Mine has stopped recognizing DVD movies (no DVD non-movies laying around for me to try) and I noticed that it says CD-Drive under type. Any ideas?

Mine says DVD-RAM Drive. It is a CDRW/DVDRW Multiburner. Try deleting the driver for the DVD drive in device manager, then reboot.

Still says CD. A couple days ago the little remove drive lever was stuck in the out position. I thought it was just caught on something so I wiggled it while pushing on it. I heard a snap. Now, that lever has no impact on the drive, if I want to remove the drive I have to use the safelty remove device tool in the toolbar, and when I put the drive back in even though that lever is in the outward position it immediately turns on the green light. Any ideas for me?

It sounds to me like you broke the switch in the Ultrabay that senses the position of the eject lever. I don't know what effect that might have on device manager, but I'd be surprised if that makes a DVD drive show up as a CD drive.

Yeah, I have no idea why that should change how it recognizes the drive, and I'm not positive but I think it was working properly since that incident.
I guess I'll have to call IBM.

The switch that you think I've broken, what part of the computer is it a part of? Mobo?

I don't recall having taken an ultrabay out of a T60, but on every Thinkpad I've worked on the switch is part of the systemboard. There's a couple of guys here who have replaced T60 boards, (Brad or RichK come to mind). Wait until one of them can confirm. You might be able to tell by looking at the Ultrabay removal procedure in the T60 maintenance manual as well.

Sorry I didn't see this sooner. The switch works a lot like the one in the T4x and R5x series. On the T60/R60 machines, there is a little switch on the USB sub card (over by the pair of USB ports). There is as cable that carries the signal to the motherboard. On the T4x/R5x machines, there is a little switch that is part of a little ribbon cable that is really part of the back frame. Again, the cable carries the signal from the far right rear corner to a connector on the motherboard. Without seeing anything, I think you probably broke something on the case.
