which PC Doctor for T41p? (plus a question on LCD)

#1 Post by ashat » Sun Nov 09, 2008 1:25 pm

I want to completely check my used T41p with Pc Doctor.

Can I use this new tool

http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... MIGR-67520

or the T41p is too old and I should use the latest version of standard PC doctor ?

FWIW, I used the tool on an A31 (which is much older than your T41p) and except for a few (mostly graphic card-related) tests, it ran all tests fine.

According to Downloads and drivers - ThinkPad T41p 2374 the answer is yes.

Whether the "older" PC Doctor is "better" I don't know, but one advantage it seems to possess it that you can run it from a bootable CD-ROM, which is nice in the case that your HDD one day might not want to boot, and you don't know why? For this reason, I keep a CD-ROM copy of a bootable in my ThinkPad toolbox. You may download the latter here.

thanks a lot!

Here I have another question related to this my new-used T41p.

The LCD screen is less-matte than my old R40. I would not say really "glossy" (like say the modern Apple MacBook) but not as matte as the R40.

Is this due to some different lcd technology of T series or I should guess that probably the previous owner has polished away the matte finish?
( I don't even know it was possible until today I read something about googling on this topic...)

By touching the surface it is considearbly less matte than the R40.

Maybe I should/could consider some matte film to apply on it?
(I am really used to the very-matte finish of the R40, neverthless I pay just 250 euros for this T41p, and overall I am very satisfied about it)

Please don't. You won't like the results and you'll destroy the LCD in the process...

OK, I won't do it!
I will deal with this slightly glossy screen...
