FS: IBM Thinkpad A31 Upgr. World Pic Links PRICE DROP

#1 Post by olex126 » Sun Nov 09, 2008 3:45 pm

Edit Nov 14/08: The WD 160/5400 hard drive from this machine has been sold, the empty HDD adapter remains. So specs are:

2.4/2 Gig/60 Gig 5400/SXGA+/WIFI/CDRW-DVD/4 x USB/ HDD adapter.

Price drop to $315 U.S.

Model: 2652-Q5U with upgrades.

Original Intel P4-M 2.0 GHz processor upgraded to P4-M 2.4 GHz. Arctic Silvered (if that’s a word) between the fan & processor. Extended (40 pass) CPU testing reveals temperature stabilizes at 52 degrees, from a base temp of 37 degrees at idle.

Original 256MB memory upgraded to 2 Gb (2 x 1 Gb). IBM part # 31P9834 or equivalent.

HD Original 40 Gb Hard Drive upgraded to Toshiba 60 Gb/5400 Hard Drive.

IBM HDD Adapter Tray located in Ultrabay2000

The 15" SXGA-IPS screen has no dead pixels or scratches. It does, however, have a small “bruise” located on the underside of the screen, at roughly the 12:00 o'clock position, resulting in a small grey area visible on any solid light background (see pic). On a solid black screen, it barely shows as a lighter area. Noticeable, but not objectionable. On a multicolored screen,(such as the desktop background in the pic), it is not noticeable at all.

If a forum member desires, I can upgrade this screen to a sealed-in-the-IBM-box refurbished UXGA (1600 x 1200) screen, including the appropriate inverter and cable for an additional $90.00.

No GPU issues, and the video chip silicone pad has been replaced.

CDRW/DVD-ROM located in the Ultrabay2000 slot.

IBM internal wifi antenna in the top cover with Actiontec 802.11b mpci wireless/modem card. 10/100 ethernet (CDC). Secure Chip (TCPA).

TV-Out . Parallel, Serial, and 2 x 1.1 USB ports all tested and working.

Two extra USB 2.0 ports are also available via a "shorty" PCCard USB adapter. This adapter fits flush with the notebook body, being completely enclosed within the PCCard slot. (see pic). It provides 100 milliamps to directly power small USB appliances, while a USB power cord is supplied to run larger 500 ma items such as USB hard drives. A driver disk is provided, although WinXP SP3 recognizes and automatically loads the (NEC) drivers upon card insertion.

BIOS and controller updated to the latest IBM versions. No passwords are set.

WinXP COA, operating system upgraded to WinXP SP3 with the latest MS updates applied.
IBM System Update installed with the latest IBM updates applied.
IBM recovery partition with original OS is intact and operational on main drive.
Loaded software includes Office 2000, Acrobat 8 Pro and Notebook Hardware Control.

This computer has both a brand new lid (correct IBM Wireless LCD cover) and a brand new base. Palmrest appears almost new, the keyboard has a light shine from prior usage. Overall in excellent plus condition, and lacking only the Video-In & Firewire ports, and the Radeon 7800 Graphics Chip of the higher-series A31p.

Includes correct A/C adapter and IBM battery. Battery tests in the green, cycle count is 255, and lasts slightly longer than an hour.

Price is now $315 U.S. plus actual shipping.

Payment is accepted by Paypal, cash, cheque, money order (and e-mail money transfer for Canadians). Cheques are held until cleared by my bank.

Shipping is worldwide by CanadaPost Expresspost insured.

Item is subject to prior sale.

PM or post with questions. Pics will be posted and linked by the end of the day.

Regards.

Dave

You should remove the serial # from your post.

This may be off topic, but I always wondered- what's wrong with displaying the serial number?

Please start a new topic for the serial # thing. It's been discussed many times, so a forum search will provide answers.
