I have recently purchased a 2nd hand T60p. I am quite happy with it, but the thing that bothers me is that the Hitachi 7200rpm 100gb HDD is very noise (mostly when writing and reading). I also have a T42p with a 5400rpm HDD that is much much quieter. I have been playing with the Hitachi Tool and I have set the quietest configuration. Although some improvement, it still makes more noise than desirable (not in idle).
Is this normal for this kind of disks? The system is in warranty until 2009. Could I ask a disk replacement due to the noise?
Thank you!
Noisy HDD on a T60p
Since your system is under warranty I would suggest go ahead and get a replacement drive. I personally don't think risking an eventual failure is worth saving the phone call to Lenovo and transferring personal data to the new drive.
