My auntie's hard-working T23 is starting to feel it's age - red tinged screen and now a bunch of blue-screens after a fresh XP install.
Rather than diagnose what's causing the problem to only have the screen finally die 6 months later, we've decided to upgrade to a sexy T40.
I've always had her on a partitioned drive system... c: for system files, d: for her own files. This makes backing up easy for her.
I'd like to use the "restore to factory original" thing by pressing the blue Thinkpad button on startup so she can restore herself...
Is it possible to restore to the c: partition while leaving the d: partition alone? Or does the restoration process wipe the whole hard drive regardless of partitions?
I could work this out with some some time and experimenting of course, but I thought I'd save myself some hours of work and ask! Had a search around the forums but couldn't find the answer though I'm sure many people have wanted to do this in the past!
Cheers!
Nick

When I have used 'Restore to factory settings' the hard disk (minus the R&R partition) gets reformatted. I have not tried creating a D: partition and then seeing if it remains after a restore. Hopefully someone will be along soon with personal experience.
