T500 and Windows Vista 64b - where is a problem ?
Hi there,
I have got problem with my T500 and Windows Vista 64b edition.
When I received my new laptop (August), there was a Vista Home 32b edition and it works werly well without any problem.
Few weeks ago. I bought next genuine Lenovo memory (2x2GB DDR3, same order number) and due allocation problem with 32b OS and 4G of RAM, I tried 64b Vista. After installation, I upgraded all drivers, updates and misc. but computer is very slow, sometimes few programs freeze and, response is like old 1GHz computer with 512MB ram. Globally it isn't equal new powerfull laptop.
Is there anybody, who has same problem ? Is there any solution ?
Do you now, why problem is with 64b OS and not with 32b ? Can anybody paste listing of all drivers ?
I am not basic user, Laptop is clean and both of OS are Legal (MSDNAA licence). Aero and stuff like this is disabled.
P.S : Sorry for my english , I hope you will understand :-)

You can go to the Lenovo Support site, put in your exact model number, and you can get a list of drivers and applications. That list is as good as anyone can give you here, and it will show you drivers for XP and Vista and sometimes differentiate between 32-bit and 64-bit. So make sure you have all the correct drivers and applications.
Other than that, I have Vista Business 64-bit running on my T61 with Aero disabled, indexing enabled and performance settings set for fastest performance and my machine runs very fast. 3Gb of ram.

Reinstall Vista x64 SP1 on a clean formatted disk. It should go in and basically work with the default drivers.WarhawkCZ wrote:Is there any solution ?
Go to the Lenovo web site, download the Software Upgrade utility, run it and let it install the drivers it thinks you need.
Take a note of exactly what those drivers were (for later troubleshooting, if required)
After that, check the Device Manager console and see if you have any "yellow triange" indicators for devices that do not have drivers. If necessary, manually download and install those drivers.
Even if you think you have already done something like this, please do it again exactly as above.
Cheers,
Bill B.
bill bolton - yes, I can try it again but :
I inserted new WD disk to T500 and then I Installed:
1st : Vista 64bussines
2nd : SP1 (it wasn't included in my Vista installation Disc).
3rd : LAN module driver
4th : Think Vantage upgrade utility
5th : I Downloaded all drivers via Think Vantage upgrade utility
6th : I Checked device manager, there were few triangles /card reader, modem, and .. sry I can't remember/.
7th : Manually installed drivers
8th : Everything were seem OK in device manager.
9th : I disabled aero, fancy graphic effects ... than anti virus, firewall..
I think, the best solution will be try it again and we will see. The good message is that Vista 64b works.
Thank You Gentlemans.

After you do all that, run System Update or look at the site and see what all they continue to recommend that you have not installed.
When I run System Update (I use it only to look), it tells me:
1. No critical updates to do
2. On the recommended list:
(a) ThinkVantage productivity center - don't use it
(b) Client Security Solution patch for Mozilla Firefox 3 - don't use CSS or Mozilla - not even installed.
(c) Two Vista 64 updates - did not work.
3. On the optional list:
(a) Client Security Solution for Vista 64
(b) a bunch of others that I didn't install because I don't use.
So it would be worth a look on your part.

Don't disable anything from the standard installation configuration until you have a system which is basically working satisfactorily (and by that I mean for a few days of real use).WarhawkCZ wrote:9th : I disabled aero, fancy graphic effects ... than anti virus, firewall..
Only then should you think of "tuning" it for whatever perceived shortcomings it may have at that stage.
Cheers,
