Laptop Cooling - Laminar Technology

Hi, guys,

Tooting my own horn here, but I wrote an article at Bright Hub about Intel's showing of laminar flow technology for laptops at the Intel Developers Forum (IDF) in Taipei, ROC last month.

The main points to be taken are that the current design of laptop cooling vents promotes turbulent air flow that causes heat to be re-radiated from components to the laptop skin. By using fewer vents, shaping them into jets, and designing the air flow in laptops to carry heat away from both components and the skin, cooler, thinner high-performance laptops can be manufactured.

Intel plans to license this technology. Although I included some pictures that explain the concept and a mockup in the article, I'm really surprised that this is such an original concept that Intel can SELL it. I think of the NACA ducts on 60s and 70s American cars, and I think that laminar flow tech has been around forever.

Can you patent and license just the application of a technology?
