Flexview screens from LG (92P6761): older and newer versions

#1 Post by hakan123 » Thu Nov 13, 2008 2:34 pm

I had a T42 with a flexview screen by LG (FRU: 92P6761) which was produced in 2005/05. I have also seen/owned several other, newer T42, T43, and T60 laptops with Flexview screens with the same FRU (ie not the older models which have screens by IDTech: 92P6680). The screens of these newer machines are clearly different: they are brighter but have a much lower contrast. The older one also had a clear yellowish taint.

Most people will prefer the new screen, but I just loved the old one because I have very sensitive eyes, and the low brightness combined with high contrast were perfect for me. So I am basically looking for a machine with the old screen (which means I hang out on ebay and annoy sellers with requests about when their machine was built etc), but they are hard to find.

I was wondering if anyone knows anything about this? In particular: when has LG changed their production from the old, low-brightness-high-contrast models to the new, high-brightness-low-contrast ones? It must have been sometime after May 2005 and before 2006... Is there a way to find out whether a particular model (on ebay) has the old or new screen? I realise this is a strange question, but any help would be greatly appreciated.
