A31p 2653-BU6

Original description:

Based on 2653-RU5

P4-M 2.0GHz .... upgraded to P4-M 2.4 Ghz

512MB RAM..... upgraded to 1.5 Gig (1 x 1 Gig, 1 x 512, both IBM/Lenovo branded)

60 GB HDD..... upgraded to Hitachi 7K100 100Gb 7200 RPM

This is the fast 100 Gb Hitachi PATA hard drive, and is covered under Hitachi warranty until April 2010. Drive Serial #: Y0HSY49L and can be verified here:

http://www.hitachigst.com/portal/site/e ... 6aac4f0a0/

Drive manufacture date is April 2007.

15.0 UXGA (1600 x 1200)..... upgraded with new (IBM refurb) UXGA-IPS Flexview screen.. simply stunning! (see comments)

Additional USB... upgraded from 1.1 to USB 2.0 via a "shorty" PCCard adapter that fits flush with the body once inserted. Driver disk provided, although WinXP SP3 automatically installs the (NEC) drivers upon insertion.

Wireless... upgraded from 802.11b (MPCI) to Intel 2200 B/G. 1802 patch applied to BIOS. Intel drivers installed and fully operational.

Bluetooth wireless card present, original BT antenna installed, and correct inverter and on/off power button functional on the screen bezel.

NO Modem …non-functional due to replacement by the Intel B/G wireless card…if you require the modem, I will have to replace the Intel B/G card with the original IBM wireless (802.11b only)/modem card, OR I can supply/install a PCMCIA 56k modem card at no charge. (Can’t guarantee which brand, I have several around here.)

Ethernet(CDC) 10/100

CDRW-DVD in Ultrabay Plus. The Ultrabay2000 will contain an empty IBM PATA Hard Disk Drive Adapter Tray.

TV out. Video In. Parallel. Serial. External Monitor. 2 x USB 1.1 (plus 2 x USB 2.0)

As-New IBM Li-On battery. Green with only 3 cycles count.

Latest BIOS updates applied.

WinXP Pro Service Pack 3 installed and updated. WinXP COA included.

Thinkvantage System updates installed.

IBM Restore/recovery partition present and operational.

Includes correct 16V 4.5A A/C adapter.

Spec’d to a top-of the-line A31p model. The plastics are almost immaculate – one small scratch on the base, and a few tiny marks on the lid. New palmrest. No shiny keys on the new keyboard. And of course, an absolutely stunningly crisp and sharp 1600 x 1200 UXGA-IPS Flexview display. The whites on this screen are a brilliant pure white. I usually run my displays at full brightness… on this one I’ve had to turn it down a notch. Excellent , even illumination across the whole display. Just the best high-rez screen I’ve come across in some time!

Of course, all screws, caps and covers present.

No BGO issues, and the video chip silicone pads have been replaced. No operational issues at all.

They don’t come much better than this specimen for a 3-spindle Thinkpad. I’m using this as my personal machine at the moment (with a very old battery in it so as to not degrade the new one) and I’m really torn about parting with it.

I would like to keep the Hitachi 100 Gb hard drive, so I’m offering two pricing options on this machine:

As described above: $ 535 U.S.

Less 100Gb HD, but including a Hitachi or Toshiba 20 Gb 4200 RPM drive with IBM preload: $435 U.S.

Both prices are plus actual shipping costs. Payment by Cash, Paypal, Money Order, personal checks ( checks will be held until cleared by my bank.) Will ship worldwide by Canada Post Expresspost.

Pics will be up and linked later today.

PM with any questions.

Regards.

Dave

What is a 2653-BU6? Where does this model number come from? I can't find it in either the tawbook or the HMM.

Really, I'm very curious, I've seen BU6 mentioned before, and really wonder where it comes from.

You say based on a 2653-RU5 (sic),but what does that mean? That it is basically a R5U as marketed in a different country (do you know)? Or that you have a BU6 modified to have specs similar to a R5U? One of your pics clearly shows 2653-BU6, and that convinces me you know what you're saying, but it's not in the manuals. What is the BU6?

A31p 2653-N5U 2.4Ghz 1.5GB 60GB/7200RPM (WinXP) UJ-850S multiburner + 320GB/5400RPM
A31p 2653-R9U 2.6Ghz 1GB 60GB/7200RPM (Ubuntu?) TS-L632M multiburner + 320GB/5400RPM

Tawbook or HMM do not include all the sub-versions of each and every model...

Product: ThinkPad A31p 2653-BU6 [change]
Operating system: All [change]

Original description: Based on 2653-R5U: P4-M 2.0GHz, 512MB RAM, 60.0GB HDD, 15.0 UXGA(1600x1200) TFT LCD, 16x10x24x/8x CD-RW/DVD, Wi-Fi wireless/Modem(MPCI), Ethernet(CDC), IEEE 1394, IBM Secure Chip(TCPA), Bluetooth(CDC), TV out, Li-Ion battery, WinXP Pro

The only difference is that R5U came with 256MB of RAM, otherwise these machines are identical. There might have been a difference in the warranty entitlements when these were new. Otherwise, this is the highest-end configuration that was available when A31p units were sold-fastest CPU, BT and wireless.
