on which side move a 9cell T4X

I am used to travel with my old R40, whose battery doesn't exceed the layout of the laptop.

I use the "second skin folder" and then put it inside my bag lying the back long side. On the bottom of the bag I have put a padding to prevent shocks.

Now I am wondering if I can do the same with my T41p with its 9 cell battery.

Is it safe?
It may happen I have to put the bag on the ground.
Is for the battery (and the whole TP), safe to support the weight of the whole laptop?

or should I switch to a bag to store it lying on its short side?
