bluetooth t40p

#1 Post by ircr » Sat Nov 15, 2008 7:17 pm

Does anybody know where could I get a program for bluetooth? I'm using windows xp's integrated bluetooth software but it's not good. I tried using my z61m's bluetooth software but it doesn't detect my bluetooth on t40p.
T40p: Banias 1.6 / 2 GB DDR PC3200 / Samsung 160GB HM160HC / Slim DVD/CD-RW / ATI FireGL 9000 64MB / 14" SXGA / Intel Pro 2915ABG / Bluetooth + Thinkpad laser bluetooth mouse :)

Go to Control Panel and check the Bluetooth settings. Probably you have the option with name like "allow other devices to find me" disabled. With this option disabled you will be unable to detect your ThinkPad with any bluetooth device.

My BT is working well, but I was wondering if there was an application for using bluetooth. I use integrated windows bluetooth but an application would be better. :)

You'd probably have better luck with that if you have something specific you want to use your BT with... such as connection between your computer and a cellphone. Which in fact has more to do with the software and it's designed purpose vs. BT per se.

At home, we use Motorola's "Phone Tools" software to handle syncronization and editing functions with our RAZR phones and therefore BT is just the means for connection of the software.

Work- Sadly, the ThinkPads have gone away...... and replaced by HP ProDesk SFF drone machines :(

Yeah, the question is what are you going to use BT for. With the Windows you can make for example the BlueTooth network (PAN) between your two laptops (make no sense if you got the WiFi). For the common BT devices (mouse, mobile phone, etc.) you will usually get some software included with device (I am using the Nokia PC Suite for connecting my phone and browse the content on it's memory card).

I use my BT with BT mouse and cellphone. It's ok with the mouse, but for cellhone is a bit more complicated - but not hard!
On my Z61m I used broadcom's software which was very easy to transfer/manage files. But I will get used to windows bt program.

I was wondering if you had to really use the antenna. I just rebuilt a pair of broken T-40's into one good machine. I wish I would have had a BT antenna to stick in that monitor bezel. I don't relish the thought of having to take it all apart when all one would have to do is replace the daughter board for the modem with a BT-enabled one after pulling the kboard.

What would happen? Would it just have really short range? Or would the RF get all inside the case? A BT USB dongle doesn't have any antenna to speak of. Why should that modem need one if not to get the RF transmission away from the motherboard and stuff?

Would it work?
