T6x power consumption depend on bios?

#1 Post by pdudas » Sun Nov 16, 2008 1:01 pm

Hi!

I have a T60 with X1300 and XGA screen.
With the systemupdate I updated it to the latest bios.

Now I have only one question: Is the power consumption depend on the bios version?

(I had X60/X61 where IBM/Lenovo made builtin cpu stressing process - there was a lot of complaints about iddle crippling (there was a crippling noise from the mainboard when the CPU was idle), so they made cpu intensive tasks against the crippling, which wasnt good for the battery.)

I installed Notebook Hardware control. On multiplier set to 6 with 0.95v core voltage (1Ghz)and GPU set to 128/135MHz I managed to reach 18w power consumption with browsing the net on wifi connection and maximum brightness. This 18w consumption is more than I think normal.

In this review they managed to reach 3.5hour without tweaks.

I have almost the same T60 except the XGA-SXGA+ screen and 1.5GB ram and 320GB hdd. I have a new battery with the capacity 56wh.

On my old T40 I managed to do this with 10-11w, on X60/X61 it was 9-10w.

Does anybody knows how can I decrease this huge consumption?
I disabled all unused devices in Bios,

Any other Idea? Or do you know other bios with better power saving options?

Thanks in advance!

Lower the brightness? Seems pretty normal for a T60, you are just not going to be able to go as low as a T40/X60. On the other hand, you should be able to get close to what the review had (16w?), did you make sure that you used the GPU's PowerPlay? There's no point in messing with the clockspeed manually, PowerPlay's the one that makes the difference.

As you know the brightness on an xga screen is very low.
So I dont want to lower it.

I have Macbook air too. That screen is so bright, I must dim it to use.
But with the T60 I dont like dim, because it is too dark.
